How To Check PC Specs: The Only Guide You Need To Follow

Do you know how to check your PC specs? It’s one of the most common questions, as many people are simply not aware how to check what GPU, CPU or Mainboard their PC houses.

In this article, we have mentioned some of the best ways to check the specs of your computer with Windows 10 and 11.

So, without further ado, let’s get into it!

How To Check PC Specs?

Whether you need to know the specifications of your computer or you are looking to upgrade your machine, you need to know some specific system information about your device. Even if you are not a tech master, you can check the hardware specs of your computer.

To help you out, here are some of the most effective methods to check your computer hardware and software specifications:

CPU

The CPU is the most important part of a personal computer. Luckily, finding information about your computer’s processor is a piece of cake. In fact, you can obtain this information with just two clicks on Windows.

To learn about your computer’s processing unit, follow this step-by-step guide:

  • Right-click on the “Windows” icon
  • Select the “System” tab from the pop-up menu
  • Under the “Device Specifications Section,” you can see the information about your CPU.

With these steps, you can find out which processor brand and model your device is currently equipped with!

GPU

Besides the processor, you also have to find out which GPU unit you are using. The process is quite straightforward and is kind of similar to the above-mentioned guide.

To find information about your graphics card, you can follow this guide:

  • Right-click on the “Windows” icon
  • Select the “Device Manager” option from the pop-up menu
  • In the device manager, click on the “Display Adapters” option
  • Here, you’ll be able to find the graphics card

Normally, you will see two options under the display adapters option. If you are seeing two options, it means your machine has two graphics cards: the dedicated graphics card and the integrated graphics card.

You have to select the dedicated graphics card as it is more powerful than the integrated one. In most cases, your dedicated graphics card will be named after the model, e.g. a RTX 3080.

If that’s not the case for you, you can select the 2nd option under the display adapter option as that is more likely to be your dedicated graphics card.

Motherboard

General information about the motherboard includes the brand name, chipset, socket, and many more. There are different methods to find this information.

You can, of course, open up your desktop and check the model and manufacturer of your motherboard. Motherboards are usually Gigabyte, MSI, and ASUS with respective chipsets called  AX370, B550M, and Z690 (for example). Once you identify the chipset, you can easily find the socket type as well!

This method is only good if you have a desktop PC. Alternatively, if you own a laptop, you can select the more straightforward approach:

  • Left-click on the “Windows” icon to open the “Windows Search Bar
  • Search “System Information
  • Find the “System Summary” tab
  • Select the “Baseboard Manufacturer or Motherboard Manufacturer” option

A new pop-up window will open with all the necessary information about your motherboard. The information next to the baseboard name, baseboard model, and the baseboard manufacturer should give you all the information you require!

RAM

For smooth functioning, the personal computer requires RAM.

Before you upgrade or sell your pc, you must find out how much RAM your machine has and specifically what type of RAM + clockspeed. To do so, you can follow the following guide:

  • Right-click on the “Windows” icon
  • Select the “System” option
  • Scroll down and find the list indicating how much RAM your device has

Best Apps To Check Computer Specs

The above-mentioned methods to check basic computer specs are straightforward, but they are limited. Each method gives you limited information about your computer’s specs.

Fortunately, there are some third-party softwares that can offer a DETAILED insight into your specs.

Some of the best tools to find hardware and software specifications include:

CPU-Z

CPU-z is probably the most famous third-party software available out there that gives you an in-depth overview of your personal computer. This software is an ideal pick for those who want to overlook their GPU. And it’s FREE!

In simple words, CPU-z is a simple software designed to find the finer details of your pc, such as the generation of psi-e bus, motherboard bios versions, CPU core speeds and clocks, and many more. However, you can also use this device to test your PC’s stability and functioning with powerful features, such as timers, stress tests, and benchmarking.

Speccy

Last but not least, we have Speccy – another popular and powerful tool for monitoring a PC’s functioning and stability. It’s developed by the same company that created the famous CCleaner – so you know it’s good.

Speccy is designed to offer information related to the operating system, graphics card, system memory capacity, hard drive speed, processor model, system model, unified extensible firmware interface, and many more. With this software, you get several reports to monitor the performance of your PC. They have both a free version, which offers advanced PC insight (good enough for our use) and a pro version, that also offers a driver updater and automatic updates.
